To be specific, this domain was registered in 2008 and has used almost the same layout, color scheme, and logo since then. Further, virtually all of the same features are present, too.

Both Popular And Controversial You Might Not Be Able To Enjoy It

As we suggested, this site has gained a massive following despite its confusing name. For those who do not know, 'chan' is a typical Japanese term for younger sister, but can be a general term of affection for any female. ‘Sankaku’ means triangle hence their triad logo.

Unfortunately, it would appear that the Russian government allegedly took the term ‘chan’ too literally and, in 2013, banned the website for reportedly hosting ch*ld pornography. Of course, Sankaku did not, but instead host some cartoon images of youthful-looking females. In fact, this nationwide ban also happened when Facebook, Wikipedia, and other "subversive" websites which discuss threatening politics.

Regardless, this has not slowed down the growth of new features on this website (more on that later) or its web traffic or active fan base.

The Design Is The Definition Of Maximalist

To be sure, Chan Sankaku Complex is not messy when it comes to its layout, but it certainly is busy. Near the top of the homepage, there is an extensive menu, with submenus listed as well.

Below that, on the left, you will see the search bar followed by another filter tool called thresholds, which ranks posts and usually a banner advert.

In the center of the page, you will be teased by a few of the most popular pictures with tons of recent pictures set to infinite scroll. Since there are tons of photos of all kinds, we do not suggest making your selection from the main page directly, but rather the submenu options.

For one, you can sort uploads by the newest of the month, the week, and the day. You can also filter by those who have recently been commented on. Also, the Post's submenu links you to your subscriptions, favorites, and takes you to the upload page if you have an account.

There Are Probably Petabytes Of Pictures

Okay, yes, we think that this may be a bit of an exaggeration, but there is probably something on the order of tens of thousands of just single pictures, not including book collections.

With each upload, you can share on Facebook and Twitter as well get immediately linked to similar pictures that other members have liked. Speaking of likes, as a member you can like or rather award a star rating to, comment on, and even edit the tags of the photo.

There Are Dozens Of Complete Manga Novels, Too

The books section, or rather the manga section, is a collection of hundreds of hentai volumes, which, like the solo pictures, are available for free. Similar to the photos, you can rate the collections, save them to your favorites, and get recommendations for other works. Further, you can adjust the size of the displayed pages and toggle between Japanese and English, and also get directly linked to other works by the poster.

Interestingly, this page has a separate search engine which works excellently. We will discuss the different kinds of kink you are going to see further below, but to sum up, there is no lack of choice when it comes to storylines, art styles, and amorous anime action.

Find Out What Is Popular With Ease

Besides the links already mentioned, another way to see what is wank worthy is by checking out the Rankings page. The Tags page is essentially a euphemism for a category section and, like other hentai forums and unlike most other studio sites, the number of categories is legendary. Or perhaps we should say overwhelming.

In the name bar, you can enter a search term and then filter by type (i.e., artist, character, genre, studio, etc.), what is called order (i.e., name, count, popularity, quality) and which language you want to see. Alternatively, you can scroll down and select from the more than 21,000 highly specific search terms, some of which look like strange computer code rather than a sex act or studio.

At any rate, to give you some specifics, there are categories of parodies of popular video games, Western comic book characters, mainstream anime characters, among other franchises. Of course, there are original works as well, including the depiction of "innocent" angelic babes, both petite and muscley women in bondage, comparatively vanilla art featuring double penetration, and smut, which is far more extreme.

They Have A Wiki But It Is A Bit Weird

In essence, it is a massive TOS and FAQ archive. To be fair, they are quite informative, and probably the first part of the site a new user should visit. But be warned, you are in for a text fest.

There Is A Basic Forum As Well

For a website that looks like it was put together by experts in multiple coding languages, we continuously keep finding that they need to invest a designer or two who has a penchant for aesthetics.

This is very obvious on the forum page, which, while not painful to look at, is a pain to navigate through since it does not adhere to the typical sectioning and grouping which most other forums adhere to. This lack of planning is particularly frustrating since the list of threads seems to be completely random, which general discussion sections and support stickies scattered from the top of the page to the bottom.

Having said that, if you do like going on an adventure to see which interesting discussion – which, to be fair, there are – Sankaku users engage in, you are going to like this part of the Complex.

Setting Up An Account And The Website Rules

To sum up, getting a profile, the sign up is simple; understanding the terms of service is not. Of course, users are expected to follow the typical rules of imageboards (no harassment, no piracy, etc.), but there are a few broader guidelines we found to be curious, or rather, far too vague for our liking.

For one, all uploads must be tagged with "several relevant tags wherever possible." How many is that, and what is considered relevant? Your guess is as good as ours.

Uploading the depiction of what Sankaku or pertinent ordinances and laws consider to be “sexual, violent, deviant or criminal conduct” is forbidden. We cover a lot of smut and tend not to judge, but what exactly does a site which hosts a plethora of images of yiffing, lolicon, and tentacle porn consider to be (un)acceptable, especially when they have been blocked in Russia for deviant imagery?

Finally, acts that place extra burdens on the administrators or servers of the site are prohibited as well. We understand that often, webmasters will add a few nebulous community guidelines to cover themselves in the event of running into issues with the law. Still, we think that these are far too open to interpretation, if not confusing.

At any rate, the signup process does not require much except for your username, email, password, followed by a confirmation.

There Are An Aggressive Amount Of Adverts

Though we have seen worse, there are a distracting number of banners on every page, sometimes appearing nearly everywhere. Strangely, though, the frequency at which you see them is inconsistent.

For example, one picture being promoted as popular might have a banner packed with bright colored GIFs and pics at the very top of the page – while another will have that, plus another series of banners right above the image in question plus even more scattered at the bottom between the recommended photos, tags, and comments sections.

Sankaku Channel: The Future

We began by discussing how this website has remained largely unchanged, though reasonably well designed. Certainly well made enough to earn a large user base and have a massive archive of hentai. Further, throughout this review, we have noted the number of features as well as a few things which annoyed us, but the Sankaku webmasters are and have developed new and improved versions of this platform.

So far, it only exists as a beta, but there is a new incarnation of Sankaku Complex (that is beta.sankakucomplex.com), which has all of the best aspects of the original without all of the baggage. To make things even better, the aesthetics have been improved with more color, fewer ads, and text "fluff," and a few new features.

For example, the Books section we mentioned is part of this facelift, and it looks great. You can also blacklist certain search terms to whittle down any of your future searches, which make finding your perfect new porn easier. While it seems like it is still a work in progress, it looks like the forum is being improved as well.

Finally, Sankaku also has a Twitter account, which not only is a fantastic way to get new fap material on social media but also get updates on the website's development. You can follow them @sankakucomplex.

Their Is A Mobile Version – And An App

Speaking of improvements, for most of its history, Sankaku Complex only had a website version that looked decent on mobile. However, with such a maximalist design, this site would look rather messy.

Fortunately, the extensive upgrade leading to the new beta included changes to the mobile version. In fact, we think that it looks even better than the contemporary version – and not by a little, by quite a lot. Aside from a few ads at the top of the page, Sankaku Complex on handheld devices first shows off a series of recent blogs – some of which include bright and colorful GIFs – loaded one at a time and below that the popular posts.

Of course, by accessing the menu can click around between the forum and specific blog topics. There are, however, two issues we had with this version: first, is that there while there are few on-page adverts, you will still have to put up with popups.

Second, you do not get access to all of the pictures and books like you would on the desktop variant of the site. For full access on handheld machines, we suggest downloading one of the three mobile apps in development: white, black, and idol, which you can get online through the mobile site menu link for free.

In this section's submenu, there are also links to a page called Implications, which assign a tag with a larger category. For example, by entering a term like All-Stars Tracer, it implies you are also looking for material related to the video game Overwatch. And there is yet another link in this section to search for what is popular.

What We Liked – And You Probably Will Also

Fortunately, all of these problems are or are at least in the process of being upgraded through the beta and up-and-coming new version of the website. At least most of them, the terms of service could be simplified and easier to understand.
