There have been many card game clones over the past few years as the genre has grown ever so popular, but most of the successful clones seem to be taking inspiration from Hearthstone. So it’s no surprise that one of the most successful pornographic card game tributes is a Hearthstone clone. Since 2017 the aptly named SmutStone has been taking the porn game world by storm.

An Original Spin on a Popular Concept

Hearthstone has pretty much laid down the groundwork for what a proper competitive card game should look like, at least in the world of video gaming. Paperback card games and computerized ones will always differ since there are certain things you can only really do with a computer behind the curtain to run the numbers.

SmutStone takes all of the wonderful things about Hearthstone and pushes them into original waters, with some very interesting and innovative combinations in fantastical themes. Where Hearthstone is built around the very medieval Warcraft franchise, SmutStone draws inspiration from older and somewhat more random sources. You’re going to see a lot of Disney influences with the classic Snow White resembling the Disney rendition of her. There are also a lot of demons, as there are in other card games, but these are of course much more reminiscent of succubae, as this is a porn infused game after all.

Nutaku have already produced tons of homages of popular video games, but brought under a pornographic lens. They have the tendency to make games that are adult themed, but not explicitly pornographic. While a ton of their games have pornographic scenes, they’re not really built around fornication as a gameplay mechanic. More often than not, you play with or around female characters towards a common goal and the sex scenes are the cherry on top of the cake. You’re not technically encouraged to romance them, that’s just a bonus.

That means that this game doesn’t really force you to play it in a sexual way, that’s more of a thematic plus that you get on the side and it pours into the art style as well. Basically, this game uses a very specific very high quality art style that seems to fall squarely between anime, Disney and Hearthstone. There are clear inspirations from all three of these sources and they’re all spliced together in a rather original and artistic way. All of the art is very well produced and there’s a ton of detail.

As you may have already guessed, the majority of the art can be found on the surface of the actual playing cards that you acquire throughout the game. The art on the cards almost always features sexy female characters that represent the actual minions that do your bidding on the digital playing mat. You build a deck around them and put them into play during the match. All of these girls can be upgraded with in-game currency as you level up. This is one of the many unique perspectives of SmutStone that serves to differentiate it from other similar card games. Even Hearthstone lacks any option to allow you to improve your cards. Once you own them, they stay exactly as they are and they never change. In SmutStone, however, your cards can level up individually. This is where the smut infusion becomes very clear.

You might have noticed at first glance of the game’s demos and promotional materials that none of the cards are actually properly adult themed. They’re just suggestive. The girls are wearing somewhat skimpy outfits and they’re in provocative poses. However, they’re not explicitly nude or in any sexual act, so to speak. That all changes as you level them up. With each level a card becomes more powerful but the girl on the card also becomes more naked. Items of clothing come off with every star level and the card becomes generally more enticing. In fact, at the beginning of the game it’s hard to tell you’re playing a Nutaku game. It’s pretty tame until you level up far enough to be surrounded by naked characters.

Storyline Between the Lines

On top of the card game combat and deck building there’s also a linear story that comes to you in the form of the ever-popular Nutaku visual novel style. Except, where they usually use anime style art to portray the story, here they use a far more western approach to how they draw the characters. This art style that you see in the cutscenes is a bit misplaced as it is very different from what you see in-game but it certainly can’t be called sub-par. This part of the game serves to give you some incentive for playing the game and it isn’t half bad. The story is rather cookie cutter, as can be expected from Nutaku, but for the purpose of a pornographic card game, it’s more than you need.

The story begins with a standard virile young male who gets lucky with an attractive young lady who happens to get sucked into a portal vortex by a demon. You get sucked in as well as you try to rescue her and the game begins. Essentially, the story has you surviving in this fantastical new world by dueling against other monsters and real players using attractive skimpy women as your combatants.

Original Gameplay Mechanics

The game draws inspiration from other card games in that you can attack the opponent’s cards or the opponent directly, but there is some originality to the way they’ve set up the board. First of all, the playable area fits three cards on each player’s side and you can place down any three from your deck. Naturally, you can prepare your deck in advance and unlike other games where you’re dragging along 30 to 60 cards, in this game you only play with 7. The main reason for this is that the cards themselves are not cannon fodder as they might be in other games. They’re more like your heroes and they stay on the board for a longer amount of time. They have their uses and their properties that decide how they’re going to fare against your opponents’ cards.

Regarding the combinations of different types of cards in combat, there are three elements, fire water and earth, as well as the opposing light and dark properties. Across these 5 types of cards you’re going to find countless different female characters. There are literally hundreds of them and their elements factor into their abilities in battle. You can prepare 7 of them in advance and once you put them into play, each card battles against each opposing card. That’s why you need to plan ahead. Also, it helps to upgrade your cards so that they can handle more of a beating.

On top of all of this action and beyond the sex scenes that you get for free just by playing the game’s story, you can also seduce your cards because they represent actual girls that are in your party. Every single card is a unique girl and that means that you have extra incentive to use her in battle. The more she levels up, the stronger she gets and the closer you get to romancing her. Nutaku use this format as a staple in all of their games and the public can’t seem to get enough of it.

Some Technical Details

The game is naturally a browser game, since it is a Nutaku title. Fortunately, because the game is mostly comprised of images in motion and there aren’t any 3D elements, it is not a flash title nor does it require any browser plugins. The entirety of the game is built within browser code and it runs flawlessly on any browsing-capable computer you might have lying around.

Unfortunately, the game still does not have a mobile port, even though the game’s design is optimal for touch screens. However, it runs really well on PC and looks absolutely great. All of the smut related content is even available in higher resolution and can be saved to your PC with a simple right-click-save-to.
