Like movie review websites, JAV smut – or Japanese porn – has become increasingly popular in recent times. And JAV Library is a promoter of this kind of porn. But unlike other sites of this type, the smut covered is both censored and even uncensored. This fact and a few other well-crafted – and not so well-executed – features make JAV Library stand out from its competitors.

An Old Site Which Breaks The Rules

For those who do not know, a long history of liberal Japanese attitudes toward nudity but highly conservative positions concerning sex has led to a schizophrenic approach when it comes to documented sex. While depicting a woman's bare breasts and buttocks is acceptable, showing a man or woman's genitals are taboo and, at times, has even been illegal.

However, there are some Japanese smut studios, and retailers do get away with selling uncensored JAV films, particularly in the West. Some of the films which have been reviewed since 2011 on this site are entirely pixel-free.

This Library Looks Quite Different

When first signing into JL before you are asked to verify your age, you get the option to select between the English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese. Since China and Hong Kong also have similar attitudes to frontal nudity as the Japanese, coupled with the content of the website, we found that to be confusing. However, we think that this because the regulations enforcing erotic censorship are often inconsistently applied in those countries.

Moving on, the homepage has a somewhat typical menu layout and features a series of popular videos. However, lower down the page, you get an explanation of what JAV Library is and gives the viewer an indirect sales pitch. To quote the website, if you are not familiar with JAV, this platform is "a dangerous place" because "you will soon become addicted to the wide varieties of JAVs. If you are already a fan of Japanese adult videos, then you probably already have the following symptoms. This is why JAVLibrary is here for you."

Awkwardly written though it may be, we did find this bit to be amusing and somewhat arousing.

Scroll further down, and there are a series of captioned crude cartoons providing a tutorial on how to use the site and what the social features are. To be specific, you can upload your favorite Nipon nudie films, review them, and discuss your opinions about them with others. Further, you can organize them into separate lists like your favorites, movies you are looking for, and the kind of JAV smut you would like to see. With some luck, the rest of the community will help you find your next fap flick.

How Different The Site’s Structure Is

While not wholly antiquated, this website does look different from modern smut review websites. For one, there is not much flourish to the site when it comes to color accents. Moreover, the icon looks like it was made using MS Paint. Further, the grey-white non-dropdown menu looks a bit drab, and for some reason, all of the Popular Movies have a strange alphabetic numerical code above the promo picture, which does not seem to follow a pattern.

Indeed, the general layout of the website makes JAV Library look unfinished.

That said, the menu is relatively thorough since you can click on a selection of movie reviews be those which have new comments, recent releases, new entries, those which are most wanted, and the best rated.

Moving on, click on a movie review, and you will see the original cover and back art, along with basic biographical information like the director, the production studio, member ratings, and the categories. Interestingly, in addition to a list of user comments, there are a series of buttons where members can select whether they want this, have watched it, or own it.

Unfortunately, there is not much actual discussion in the comments section. Fortunately, though, they are filled with links to purchase or download screenshots or even the entire film. Just be careful because with so many movies, we cannot verify the safety or legality of these torrent links.

The Trailers Are Kind Of A Trap

At least kind of.

On a lot of the movie pages, you will find a pink play button, which would suggest that you get to see a preview of the movie in addition to a bevy of pictures. However, if you click on one, a trailer will open up but usually does not play the first time it opens. So, you are going to have to refresh the page, and there is always the risk that the video will crash, which will lead to more refreshing.

You will also be redirected at the same time to r18.com, which has a series of free previews of even more JAV porn.

The Advanced Search Options Are A Bit Different

By doing a simple search option on the advanced search page, you can either look for a movie based on the title, the starlet, director, studio, or label. Through the combination search, you can combine those search terms with the user rating, release date, genre, and cast filter.

The Categories Are Some Of The Most Diverse And Kinky We Have Ever Seen

Perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of JAV Library we found were the categories both because of the number of them and the fact that we had never heard of some of them. Furthermore, unlike much of the rest of the site, this page looks better since it has been organized into a series of related sections, each with alluring genres.

For example, the Theme section includes exotic erotic genres like Hot Spring, Futanari or hermaphroditism, and something called Nampa, which is a surprisingly unique fetish. There is even a section called Costume and includes genres like Kimono, Blazer, and even Female Ninja, the latter of which are certainly worth checking out.

The two sex acts sections have categories that run the gamut from plain vanilla smut to scenes involving breast milk to a particular form of "dark chocolate." Amazingly, in addition to movies published on modern media, there is even a genre linking you to films released on VHS!

The Ranking Page Is Neat, But The Directory Is Pointless

On the Ranking page, you see a list of the members' favorite performers and who is trending upward or downward. Click on the talent's picture you will be connected to all of the movies she has performed in or rather all of those which have been uploaded and promoted by JL users.

Interestingly, in addition to Japanese women, you will even find some Caucasian starlets, too.

However, the Directory page is completely uninteresting or rather impossible to enjoy because of how poorly designed it is. The reason being that it is a series of links to all of the performers, which have been discussed on JL, all several thousand of them, and without any promotional pictures.

There Are Some Extremely Thorough Reviews

The biographical information listed on each movie page is usually complete, but the reviews always have even more information. On most pages, there are some reasonably well-written descriptions and critiques of the film in question, some of which are a couple of hundred words long while others exceed 1,500 words.

Needless to say, the members of this site are particularly passionate and provide excellent rundowns on the many JAV films which have come out in the past several years.

The one downside about this page is that you can only toggle reviews that have been published in the last month or of all time.

But The Translations Are Terribly Hilarious

The most hysterical feature of this website is the way that the movie names have been translated, or rather barely translated intelligibly. For instance, there is a video by Moka called ERIKA Sex Cum Black Gal Sugge – and yes, Moka is ethnically Japanese.

Perhaps our favorite was a decently reviewed Idea Pocket film epically titled “Revival! For The First Time In 3 Years! Ban! First Life Cum Shot Sex-SECOND IMPRESSION- Return 9 Early Launch Of Genuine Semen Anger To Ma! ! Hatsune Minori.”

For this reason, we say good luck trying to figure out what each movie contains based on name and without searching by tags.

The “Official” Forum Is Surprisingly Basic

Technically, there is a forum, but we think that it barely qualifies. The News & Announcements section has several dozen dry updates by the administrators, which are mostly inconsequential. The General Topics cover everything from questions about where to find vaguely described pictures to discussions about obscure sexual fetishes. As exciting as some of these threads are, the way they are densely spaced together coupled with an ugly white-grey color scheme makes this part of the site almost impossible to read.

The Error Reporting page uses an esoteric title system – i.e., [KAGP-053] Correction: Video Title, which apparently refers to the ID number of a movie and states that the name needs to be "fixed." The Wishing Pool is perhaps the best part of the forum, but the number of responses to movie requests is highly inconsistent. To put a number on it, some recent requests have one or no answers, while one thread has 36.

Amazingly, there is a surprising amount of engagement by the members. But we think that most of our readers would come to the same negative conclusion that we did.

How This Website Looks On Mobile Devices

To begin, this website clearly has not been optimized, so you find yourself zooming in and out when reading the site. To be fair, it is not too bad, given the simplicity of the website's design.

However, on mobile devices, you will have to put up with popups. Further, on the language selection screen, unlike the desktop version, there are a series of links to 15 social media platforms, apparently to prompt the user to promote the website.

Joining Will Take A Bit Longer Than Other Porn Platforms

While it is free to join JL, you will have to take more time than getting on an account to the average tube site. In addition to the usual password and username generation, you are going to have to verify your email address, age, and give your municipal location.

But before that, you are going to have to agree to their terms of service, which we strongly recommend you read through twice. The reason being the admins on this site does not tolerate violations of the rules, and it seems like they have a one-strike you get booted policy.

What Is Hot And Not On This Asian Archive

The first thing that we like about this site is the fact that they are not littered with banner adverts or popups. Of course, being Japanese porn, there is a fantastic number of movies and more categories than any other JAV site.

Though we would typically find fault with this, the errors are so amusing we actually like the translation problem.

We also really do not like the fact that clicking on pictures and trailers nearly always redirects to a completely different website. We also do not like the problem wherein viewing the trailers and larger pictures always crash.

Lastly, while there is a link to tweet at and like JAV Library's Twitter page, there is virtually no archived content, and it appears that they have entirely stopped adding posts.

The Things That We Would Modify

Unsurprisingly, the first thing we would do would take all of the redirects off of the site. Even if it takes you to another website with more free video previews, we find that this kind of hidden advertising is way too distracting and spammy.

Moving on, while the website design is not terrible, it is a bit banal. We would add more pink to make the website more visually stimulating. We would also lower the sensory overload factor by moving all of the ads to the left-hand side of the screen underneath the menu.

We would completely redo the forum by organizing threads into proper sections. Plus, we would also add more content like polls, an art section, and other interactive features. That or we would scrap this entire part of the site since there is so much work to do to improve this horribly done part of the website.

Should You Give This Site A Watch?

While the amount of the content of this website is wonderful, there are too many problems structurally to give this website much of an endorsement. That said, hardcore JAV fans – especially those who enjoy the uncensored variety – will find something to appreciate, but mainstream smut viewers probably will not.

To sum up, we give this website three out of five hands and say you should investigate it at your own risk.
